Kayaking: Silver Fork American River 5/6/2014
Spring kayaking in California on the Silver Fork of the American River. Located just outside of Kyburz, CA, this run boast’s one of the steepest miles in Lars Holbek’s guidebook, “Best Whitewater in California”. An early morning lap with Scott Lindgren, Thomas Moore, Jared Nocetti, Scott Ligare, Taylor Cavin, and Robby Hogg. I did see a few fish rise right before the river rapidly started to drop. I have yet to bring my fly rod into the middle of this stretch of river.
Whitewater Kayaking
Cali’s Finest: G** Wave
Located a few miles downstream of the confluence of the North and Middle Forks of the American, the Gay Wave gets its name not because it’s so fun that it makes people happy… But because it’s located downstream of a famous nude gay beach. While paddling down to surf, many groups have gotten much more than they bargained for.
GNAR FEST: A Class V Kayaking Race
The South Fork of the Feather River, below Grass Valley Reservoir, is an action packed section of whitewater. Once a year, the boys gather here to see who has what it takes to make the fastest run through the first gnarly gorge.
Kayaking Shirt Tail Canyon: Tributary to the North Fork American River
Shirt Tail Creek is one of the few runable tributary’s to the North Fork American River. In this video, Nick follows me on the bottom half of the run. With higher flows and no shuttle driver we put-in right at the falls, and Nick impresses with his ability to paddle this difficult whitewater with very little beta. Shirt Tail’s reputation holds strong among the class V community. Love it or hate it, it is an action packed mile dropping over 400ft. (filmed spring 2011)
Kayaking the Feather River
Headed up the Feather drainage a couple weeks ago on a kayaking trip. Have been working on upgrading my camera equip. Have the new Dji Phantom drone with a Gopro hero3 mounted on it. This is what I came up with.
